The
Delta, "Home of the Blues"
Delta
State University is located in the heart of the Mississippi
Delta—a unique, thriving, culturally rich and diverse
region of the United States. Known as the “Home of the
Blues,” the Delta claims Blues musicians such as Robert
Johnson, W. C. Handy, and Charley Patton (considered the “Father
of the Blues”) as its own. Dockery
Plantation, birthplace of Charley Patton, is just
a few miles from Cleveland. The Delta
Blues Museum is just down the road in Clarksdale,
which is also home to the Ground
Zero Blues Club, co-owned by Morgan Freeman. Po
Monkey’s Lounge, one of the last rural juke joints,
is also located within a few miles from Cleveland.
